The Things They Carried

Physically, the men carry all the essential things necessary for war. They carry such things as marijuana, bug spray, knives, grenades, guns, ammo, etc. The author, O'Brien, describes what each man carries. For example, he explains what the medic carries (medical supplies). As opposed to the physical sense of what these men carry, they also carry things metaphorically. For example, Jimmy Cross holds onto and carries the fact that he is in love with Martha and she doesnt love him back. I think that this is very common in war, with people carrying stuff physically as well as metaphorically.

Packing Heat

A main thing that the crew carries is the weight of one another. Not physically but metaphorically. They have to carry each others worries and pain. They need to support each other, they must keep their moral up. They all must help each other survive the war and the pains of war. They especially need to care for each other when Lavender dies, they can not let that bring them down. If they can successfully carry each other then they have a great chance of surviving the war.

Chronology in Catch-22

Nice dancing there Forest. From the looks of it, you thoroughly enjoyed yourself over the weekend. I hope the rest of you did as well.

Here is a topic for you guys to consider after completing the reading tonight: how is the story of Catch-22 told differently from say, Dorian Gray or A Farewell to Arms? Why might Heller present Catch-22 in the order that he does? How might the form( or way in which the story is told) reflect the content( what is actually being said)? How does this affect your understanding of the story?
Please give thorough responses; I am taking notice.
